Milestones: A Miles Davis Archive
Приєднався 31 сер 2015
Dedicated to the music of the great jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Miles Davis (1926-1991). Miles was at the forefront of American music during six decades from bebop in the 1940s, through cool jazz, hard bop, orchestral jazz, modal jazz, avant garde, jazz rock, fusion, to hip hop.
He led some of the greatest bands of all time, working with John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Bill Evans, Sonny Rollins, Marcus Miller, Horace Silver, Chick Corea, John Scofield, Keith Jarrett, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul, Kenny Garrett, Cannonball Adderley, Jackie McLean, Hank Mobley, Sonny Stitt, Charlie Parker, Gil Evans, Mtume, Tony Williams, Ron Carter, Philly Joe Jones, Jimmy Cobb, Al Foster, Pete Cosey, Reggie Lucas, Michael Henderson, Daryl Jones, Marilyn Mazur, Robben Ford, and many others.
This is the place to hear vintage Miles concert recordings, unreleased music, and hard to find rarities. MILES LIVES!

Südwestfunk (SWF) radio broadcast
In 1990 Miles Davis was in the final phrase of his career- his last gig would be 14 months after this- and the band were frequently visiting West Germany, with this gig being broadcast by German radio.
The band was kept busy throughout 1990 with a string of US and Canadian dates in the first half of the year, then a European tour starting in late June. Miles's son Erin joined the band earlier that month, playing electronic percussion, replacing John Bigham. Erin recalls his father had started to take him on the road when he was 14 and soon he became part of the road crew. Eventually he was asked to join the band. "Him letting me on stage was him giving me a chance. I kept telling him I wanted to be a musician, I wanted to play drums, I wanted to have my own band. He let me see what it was like on the big stage. He knew I knew all the material from working on the crew all those summers. I don’t even think I got any rehearsals. I think I watched the guy who did it before me for a couple of shows, and then I was just kind of on it, in the seat. It was my gig. It was a good experience, nerve-wracking for me." The next newest member, bassist Richard Patterson, had joined in April.
Hohentwiel is a dead volcano that towers over the city of Singen with the castle, now a ruin, built at its peak. Festivals had been held at the site since the early 1900s and an annual jazz festival started in 1975. This appearance by Davis has been credited with drawing attention to the festival and boosting its popularity.
This gig is a typical Miles set of the period, with a well drilled band, and great spots for Garrett, Foley and Akagi. Patterson's snappy bass is a great fit, although Erin's electronic percussion pads are as clunky sounding as Bigham's had been before him. The tunes are a mix of pieces from the _Tutu_ and _Amandla_ albums, some funk jams, and the crowd pleasing pop covers he had been playing for several years.
Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the show is how strongly Miles is playing- rhythmically incisive phrases with a full, piercing tone and plenty of open horn, always a sign Miles was having a good night. Listen to this performance of Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time- it might be one of the best on tape. There are spots where Miles seems to be preserving his strength, though- Garrett takes over for most of In The Night, the tune Miles had recorded with the great funk band Cameo for their otherwise disappointing album _Machismo_ (Atlanta Artists). This piece also has the novelty of Foley and Patterson contributing vocals, the only time Miles's set regularly featured singing. Tutu ends with some amusing call-and-response between Miles and the crowd, a sign that he was happier to engage with audiences than in years gone by.
The European tour was scheduled to continue into the first week of August but, after another German gig on July 30 (ua-cam.com/video/7pb_leqtct8/v-deo.html ) the final dates were cancelled when Miles fell ill. These were historic times for Germany- the Berlin Wall fell the year before and official demolition had begun one month and a day before this concert. On October 3 the Unification Treaty came into effect, reuniting the West with what had been the German Democratic Republic in the East. Miles and the band would revisit the united country in the autumn, playing at least eight more concerts there before the end of the year.

Awesome recording, love seeing the pictures of the old barn.
Один из лучших концертов этого периода Дэвиса
This was before Chick found L. Ron Hubbard. Why do I mention that? Because I recently what a controlling loon Chick was as a bandleader- at least, in Bill Connor’s experience. Anyway, on electric piano Chick was a force of nature. His playing pianistically but exploiting the unique sound of the Rhodes.
This Band is a soaring comet- finding its destination not among the individual stars but d😢tailed among distant Universes caring a knowledge of musical ideas and genius not to be found anywhere but only among these gentlemen!
I've been listening to MWTH since 81, thinking it was complete. To hear the full version now is ...astonishing... it breaks down preconceptions, which is like hearing it for the first time again. The power, space and restraint in the music is completely unique to Miles. A big thank you to everyone who made it possible for me to hear this.
je n'en ai plus rien à faire de vos appreciations
Thanx !!!Another black gems from Miles the sorecerer and his excellent sidemens!!! Unbelieveable music For eternity! Good vibes!!! ThX
NICE Song !! 🥸🎺❣️💞💖
Truly a great find. I didn't know they collaborated.
Miles takes time to warm up, yeah?
Just found your channel. Much respect Sir

Miles sounds really in command -tight band. Thx for upload.
Saw the Adelaide show, sheer brilliance , sadly its never surfaced, the sound was amazing. I have part of the Sydney show , but one track suffers from speed issues.
Thanks once again. Great that you found the whole show, some of which turned up on a bootleg called 'Sing in Singen' Knockout! J x
Good sounds! Thunks!
Wow. S😂o gra😂teful . Thank you for sharing!
Elton Johnis in the lucky position to own original prints of Irving Penn’s photographs of Miles’s hands (used for Tutu). They are on show @ the V&A until the end of 2024 and worth the entry-price alone.
At the V&A that's definitely worth a visit 👍
Thanks so much.
Thanks so much.
If you wanted another comparison in artistic influence I guess the nearest would be in the 20 century Picasso. Miles lives on.
Il existe des concerts diffusés j en ai écoute beaucoup.celui ci,pour le son la prestation dans son ensemble,la présence de miles Davis ect..c est un live de premier ordre...

Thanks for uploading!!
I've read all the comments. Take a breath. This dude is owed numerous coffees. He gave us 'Black Beauty' w/o the cuts!
Hearing Miles during this p😂eriod is a revelation; he was in a process of having to relearn how to play again and such a process 😅open many exit avenues that he took. A new vocabulary paints new images and restricts usage of old cliches. This Band is a Bitch! Sco is growing into a monster; Irving does not get the credit he deserves for being the “ pulse” of the Band; Berg is deserving of being identified as as a true Trane acolyte; and Miles covets his club membership with Muddy Walter’s and John Lee Hooker. There is no band that can effectively play in this style( chromatic funk) for any longer than seven minutes. Masterful achievements and they did this every night.
Fico ligado na harmonização!!!
Life itself praying for the Palestine
I was seven months old God it’s been good to me
Such good job rip
I can’t stop listening to this. To think of the year and such just amazing talent on display by these masters is mind blowing, not to mention the sound 🫠
Felt like I was there, felt good, thank you!
I'll wait ✋ any amount of time to hear Miles Davis live. Thanks and happy anniversary celebrations for Kind of Blue on 17th of August 1959 65 years and still the most influential album of the 20 century.

Very beautiful and sensitive music..
Wayne is immediately recognizable. I know he formed Weather Report after this, but i wish he would have kept recording with Miles through the 70s as well.
